“You Can't Have ASUU On Strike, Unable To Deliver E-Learning And Approve Colleges": Students Lament by Dharkson(m): Fri 15, May, 2020 03:07pm


As regards the gradual relaxation of Lockdown in the three states, Lagos, Ogun and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and some other states, where the total lock-down was formally implemented, varsity students nationalwide are clamouring to go back to school, saying they will observe the safety guildlines.

Students in tertiary institutions across of the country alleged that the virtual learning system which government claimed to commerce are yet to be delivered while the ones some of the institutions have adopted is not working effectively.

Varsity Students further lamented poor internet connectivity, lack of electricity, high tariff of data as the major challenges and yet some of the students claims not to have a smartphone.

Furthermore, the Students make a reminder to the Federal Government as regards the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) which had embarked upon an indefinite strike on March 23. They further state even if they were to resume now, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) are still on strike, despite been paid February and March salaries.

Students regretted that the leadership of the country is not looking inward in tackling the virus, coronavirus challenges, wondering when Nigerian government would learn to develop and depend on its home-grown solutions rather than foreign or imported policies.

The Students felt disappointed that the government choose to approve the establishment of Federal colleges in the six geo-political zone in Nigeria and yet unable to solve the Indefinite strike issues nor deliver the E-learning to Nigeria students.

ASUU strike had been the trend on Twitter and everyone uses the avenue to lament the pains in their heart.

An handler twitted saying, “You cannot have ASUU on strike, unable to deliver online learning to schools across Nigeria, and be approving the establishment of six new Federal Colleges of Education in each of the geo-political zones of the country. Again except this is mainly targeted at job creation."
